"Like your rock n' roll dangerous, f**ked up and unpredictable? Singer, Declan O'Shea, is brilliant... you can't take your eyes off him for a second...Cyclefly will blow you away." --Kerrang! magazine

CYCLEFLY INTERVIEW

Cyclefly is a band who opened for BUSH on July 22, 1999 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. They played at Woodstock the next night and from there have become better known, especially in the BUSH community. In January, Cyclefly will be opening for BUSH in Europe. I enjoyed the band so much, so I was able to get some questions answered by the lead singer, Declan O'Shea. Special thank you to Claudine.

How and when did you meet?

We met in Cork [Ireland in 1995]. I was playing in pubs; I met NoNo, Christian and Jean Michel, who were in Ireland playing in a band called Seventeen. I then moved to France to work at EuroDisney as a carpenter with Ciaran, my brother. Meanwhile Seventeen split, and the lads contacted my mother, who then rang France. Ciaran went back and met the lads and jammed with them. He then said it was cool, so I came back and Cyclefly started.

Where did the band name and CD title come from?

The band name came from a painting [Declan] did in acrylics of a figure. The CD title came from a song named "Generation Sap."

How would you describe your sound, in your own words?

Hard to say- listening to yourself is quite weird sometimes!

Who are your influences/Who do you enjoy listening to?

Bowie is my favourite, but I like a lot of different stuff: Kyass, Beatles, Lennon, Jane's Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins.

Declan, are you a natural redhead?

Of course I am.

How did you get your gig with BUSH at the Roseland Ballroom  [July 22, 1999; New York City]?

The general manager of our record company, Brendan, got it through their agent.

What do you think of BUSH?

We love to tour with BUSH. They're a great band; they are the only band that we have played with that we all know their material.

Do you have any plans for a U.S. tour?

October we [toured] with Live in America for a month...

How was Woodstock?

It was cool at Woodstock. We met Perry Farrell which was cool.

How do you feel about the comment from Kerrang! magazine comparing the band to a pink-flavoured Marilyn Manson?

Yes, it's great, but I don't think I look like Marilyn Manson.

Do you know which song will be the next single from Generation Sap?

No, not yet, but maybe "Better Than You."

>>Special thank you to Claudine!
