03.07.00 Norwich, England University of East Anglia By Becky I saw Bush for the 5th time on Tuesday!! They were so soooooooooooooooooooooo good, and I was in the front row, right dead centre in front of Gavin. During the last song of the encore ("Little Things") these 2 guys got on stage, and I just tried to dive out of the audience and onto the stage, and I couldn't move, and Gavin was looking right down at me, and I must have looked so pathetic, cos he actually came down and pulled me out of the crowd (bouncer helped) and pulled me up on stage! I got to hug him and mosh with him for the whole song which seemed to go on forever!!!!! And I shook Nigel and Robin's hands and hugged Dave, which was so totally cool!!!!!! When I got off stage I was screaming and jumping around cos Bush have been my favourite band for 5 years, and I kinda got to meet them and wow, so cool man!! |
03.24.00 Boca Raton, FL Florida Atlantic University By Oscar Ramirez This was an amazing concert. I got there at about 7:30pm. I bought a few stuff and got in the audience. The amphitheatre was really small. You could see the concert even from behind a fence. When Moby started the crowd just stood and stared. People were already chantng for Bush while Moby was playing. When Moby got off I tried to find a way to the front. It was hard, people some people were too stubborn to move. I got around to the middle of the crowd. So it was my girlfriend, my friend (from Ecuador), and me standing and waiting for Bush. (Bush takes too long to get ready.) So when they finally got on it was chaos. They started the show with "Disease of the Dancing Cats." It was great. Gavin's hair is defintely back to normal. The people around me fell to the floor due to some pushing. That's when the mosh pit started. I was more into this Bush concert with the crowd than the last one. But the thing that wasn't so great was when I found a sandal... I found a sandal on the floor and people inthe crowd were telling me to throw it on stage. I didn't, instead I gave it to my Ecuadorain friend. To my surprise he threw and it HIT GAVIN ON THE HEAD. Gavin looked pissed I was shocked. I couldn't believe what happened. This was during "Everything Zen" of course. He was playing his guitar when the sandal got him square in the head. Gavin had an angry face. It defintely must have hurt. My friend couldn't believe it either. Later that performance he jumped in the crowd once. I moshed alot. I was over excited. Before Gavin played "Glycerine" he gave a few words to my Ecuadorian friend: "And the young man who hit me in the head with a shoe must have a dick this big." (Holding two fingers really close.) My friend just laughed. I felt pretty guilty. Security tried searching for him. Gavin also did the rock version of "Glycerine," and played "Little Things" with no guitar again. I have to say this was a pretty interesting concert.
Here is the set list on how I remember it:
Glycerine ( I don't think I got it in the exact order but it's close enough.) **Sorry to Gavin for the sandal accident*** |
03.28.00 State College, PA Bryce Jordan Center By Jessica Last night I went to my second Bush show. It has been nearly 4 years since the last show. Their live shows have gotten so much better than before. Not that they were bad, because prior to the concert last night Bush had an amazing live show. But they way that they get into the music now is amazing. They are just the greatest band in the world. I mean I cannot emphasize that enough. Sorry for babbling on there... Okay I got there pretty early last night...I got to see Moby...well what can I really say about him...he is good at what he does, but not my type of music...I was in seats, I had pretty damn good seats I think. It was sometime after nine o'clock when the lights when off and the eerie Science of things spacey music was played...everyone started cheering it was so great! The opening song was 'Machinehead', which was played amazingly. The songs that they played were in no particular order:
Machinehead
Encore: During Little Things was amazing, Gavin didn't use his guitar he just held the microphone and jumped around. I loved that part so much. He is so energetic at concerts it is great! He crowd surfed a few times, during Little Things was the best one though, he was right in the center, and he kept on kicking his leg up in the air, it was so cute. =0) The crowd was trying to rip his shirt off it was like oh jeez...and during Comedown...that was one of the best songs last night. Gavin left stage and came up to the seats he was stuck in the center section, I couldn't see him. It rocked so hard. And when he came back on stage he said he wanted to visit all of us, but that section wouldn't let him go...=0( During one of the songs, Nigel got on his knees and played...I thought that was so cute...then after the song, he got on his knees and crawled goofily over to Robin...Bush is just great! Dave oh my...he was so cute too...he was really energetic last night too...he really rocked out. He got on Robins platform a few times which was cute. And again during Little Things, Nigel, Gavin, and Dave all got on this little platform and played together that was awesome. Robin was also very cute last night he is like always smiling and laughing...that is practically what he did... Now...I know I am writing a lot, but this is just so exciting. Now what they wore, Nigel had on a bright red t-shirt with checkared print on his right side...Robin had on a muscle shirt, I believe it was like a teal color...it was very pretty, I was a little upset he didn't take his shirt off though, my friend asked me to get some pictures of him without it...Dave had on one of his many button up quarter length shirts, it was black, and he had on gray pants I believe. Gavin...he had on a blue shirt that said I think...'Magic'...and he had on a greenish shirt on under that...he looked very cute, which I was also a little disappointed no shirt was taken off there either...but... Now, I tried last night so hard to meet them, but it was terrible. I went to where the buses were, and stood out there for at least 1 hour and 30 minutes...no one came out, then this lady came out and was like you all should just leave cause they won't be out for a couple hours, but I begged her to at least go and tell Bush that there was people out here dieing to see them, but she wouldn't...I knew that if they knew that there was some people outside in like 10 degree weather waiting for them that no doubt in my mind that they would come see us...but then eventually the police came and made us all leave. Which I would have waited forever to see them...but maybe next time I guess. Now I just thank you so much if you actually reading this whole review, I babbled a bit but I am just so excited to have seen them last night. And if you get the chance to see them live **GO!!!!** |
03.30.00 Fairfax, VA Patriot Center By Christie Although I'm not a huge fan of Moby or most purely techno "music" he did do a pretty good job at getting the crowd pumped up. Although, the drummer and the DJ did more work, I think, than he actually does, he is REALLY good at playing the bongos and his lil drum machine! I don't really know much of his work too well, but he played the song from a soundtrack (I'm thinking he said something about a James Bond movie...but I'm not really sure) which was a pretty awesome song..and he actually played the guitar on that one. He was running around and stuff getting people psyched most of the time...and he happen to notice that a lot of the people had gotten glow necklaces and such and he was saying that the next song, "Glow," was dedicated to those people cos he thought they were "really pretty." Well, I didn't buy my sticks at the concert, cos I like the bigger stick things better and, like I thought, all they had at the concert were the lil sticks you chew on and the lil necklace things. Well, I was thinking I was going to put the glowing liquid in my hair (although I never got time to), so I had brought three with me, but being as I already had a glowstick, and so did my friend, Rosa, I thought I'd just throw one up on stage. So I pulled the last one out of my bag and cracked it and I waited until Moby came over, and threw one up on stage. However, he was running around so much (and I have such bad aim) that it landed kinda between him and his little DJ dude (who's name I wish I could remember!!!) who happened to see it fall and picked it up after that song was over and put it up on his stand. He (the DJ, not Moby) started looking down towards around where Rosa and I were and we were waving the sticks that we still had and I was waving mine around and pointing to myself and mouthing something like "that was me" and he started smiling and kinda pointed to us. After a couple songs, they did a slow one ("Natural Blues," I believe), and the DJ didn't have to use his turn table, so he stuck the stick up on there and it was like spinning around for that whole song....it looked pretty cool! They all finished up their set and Moby thanked the crowd (as he did soooo many times before during the night) and left off. After the usual wait between bands Bush came out to a huge uproar and started in on the usual favorite opener, "Machinehead" with, if not nearly everyone, about 90% of the people there yelling the words as loud as possible for the whole song. The entire band seemed like they were getting really into it, glad to be back on a tour that will last for some time. They went into "Personal Holloway" and the crowd just kept going nuts. Fortunately, I was in a spot where I was in good view area....right in the front by Nigel...but not where I was going to get beat up too bad...which really wouldn't have bothered me too much, but Rosa is kind of a small chick (in fact, she has bruises up and down the lower part of her arms from trying to be up where she could see good, but from being pushed into the barrier at the same time) and I was trying, with the help a really nice person that was next to us, to just keep people off her as much a possible for the whole night. Which was really hard...especially when Gavin jumps into the crowd...people just flood towards you and it's just not anything you can hold back. They went into "Warm Machine" with Gavin saying something along the lines of this song being about not fitting in and trying to find your own space and area where you can be yourself and be comfortable...something like that...can't really remember...sorry if it's a bit off. Next they did "Disease of the Dancing Cats" which is totally awesome live, Nigel was just going crazy with getting into playing it. I don't remember if it was this song or later in, but he and Gavin were kinda doing a dueling guitars type thing at one point squatting really low and sometimes even down on their knees, which still sounded REALLY awesome. After that came "Insect Kin" which was really amazing, Robin was jumping around in the back waving his arms towards Sacha...I'm pretty sure it was during the "all the pain in her wave goodbye" area of the song...which was looking really cool, cos Sacha was jammin doing his thing, with his kick ass BRIGHT red hair, and Robin kinda waving around in the light while Gavin ran off up into the seats and was swallowed (no pun intended) up by the crowd there. When he finally got back and down and they finished the song, Gavin started saying something about how in the future we'll all end up in space and they all started on "Spacetravel." I think a few lighters even went up during that performance, but I'm not entirely sure. It then got kinda dark while Nigel, Gavin and Sacha were playing the first parts of the intro to the "Mouth" remix. This song is really awesome. I think I remember hearing parts of it once or twice live before they even did the remix and it that sounded really great too, but it's cool for them to have the ability now to play a remix song (and also have the sound of back up instruments, like the strings in "Glycerine") cos of Sacha...and it's really awesome to see him jamming and finding lil areas to play stuff even on songs that he didn't originally collaborate on. After "Mouth" it also got pretty dark again and you could see Nigel, Gavin and Dave all moving towards Robin and kinda grouping up right there while they started the intro of "The Chemicals Between Us." That really got the crowd pumped there was a lot of jumping around and tons of people were screaming the lyrics. When that was over, Gavin (he doesn't shut up does he? lol...it keeps the crowd happy I guess.) was talking about how in England you can't simply show people fucking on television, and how you can show all the cop shows where people are being shot, murdered, robbed, etc., but how you can't have a nice little video with two people just fucking in it so "Letting the Cables Sleep" was banned from most of the music video stations there because the pathetic sensors. During that one, the whole place was a lil more mellow and I saw a lot more lighters lighting up what part of the crowd that I could see. "Everything Zen" came next and totally threw out the little kinda light mode and everyone started jumping and moshing again. After that they started into "Dead Meat"...I'm thinking there was some kind of conversation here, but I either just can't remember it, or couldn't understand what he was saying over the yells of the audience. The intro to "Comedown" got the crowd really pumped, and the group did a really awesome total silence/black out type thing in that one little part of the intro...you know the part I'm talking about, I'm sure, the kinda switch from intro area to where the song gets quite a bit heaver/louder before the lyrics actually start. The crowd sang quite a bit of the first part up to the first chorus before Gavin came back into singing the rest of the song. This was the last song of the first part of the show. When they came back out for their exceptionally long encore, they did a really kick ass rocking end type "Glycerine" like at the Manchester performance which was on Dotmusic followed by PRETTY VACANT!!!! That song hasn't been played in soooo long, and a lot of the crowd either just picked up on the main words really quickly, or knew it from way back when and were just going nuts during that song! After that came a really awesome performance of "Swallowed" followed by the old 1-2-FUCK-YOU intro into "XGirlfriend" which still keeps the crowd going crazy. Following this came "Prizefighter" and I believe this was another one where Nigel and Gavin (I'm noticing I'm not saying much about Dave, Robin and Sacha...especially Dave, and that's just cos of where I was over by Nigel, it was really hard to see Dave except for the couple times he walked over and played by Nigel for a little while...but I can't really remember exactly what songs that was that he came over..so i didn't mention it) were really going at it. Then came the final song, "Little Things" and it was just Nigel carrying the guitar parts (not that he can't handle it, he did great!) and Gavin took out into various parts of the crowd for the majority of this song with just the mic. |
03.31.00 Providence, RI Providence College By Jessica Well after driving/riding the ferry 5 hours to providence RI and getting lost at least 3 times (I swear Providence has the hardest roads to follow in the world) We were finally on our way to see Bush. I'll start off with the first Bushy encounter, which would be my mother practically hitting Sacha on the way to the concert in her car. He was crossing the street, holding a bunch of shopping bags and my mom stopped the car at a light as it was turning from orange to red, he started crossing and he smiled at us and said "thank you." At first I was like 'that guy looks so familiar, where do I know him from?' Snd then a split second later, as he was crossing I was like 'OH MY GOD... THATS SACHA!!!!' I didnt recognize him right away with his bright red hair. But that was really cool. Then I knew I should have yelled something out the window to him, but of course I didn't. Why? because I AM A LOSER!!!! So we get there and my mom drops off me and my friend laura. And we wait in line for about an hour before they let us in. Then we get our tickets, go inside, and get as close to the stage as possible. which i guess then would be like 3rd row back (standing) in this schools gym. Moby came on, and I thought he was really awesome, even though I didn't really know much of his music. He was awesome, if I had money I would buy his cd!! The only thing that sucked during moby were these drunk jock guys who were trying to push us out of they way and starting mosh pits when it really wasnt the time for it, expecially because they were the only ones doing it.. they were really obnoxious. So after a while of trying to tollerate them i ended up leaving and going with a bunch of other people we met to try to get backstage. It ended up we had one extra pass to share between like 4 people, and we were going to trade off... but when i was going to go backstage, I guess the very mean security gaurd caught on to what we were doing and wouldnt let me go back. So, as Bush started playing (they opened with machinehead) i made my way back into the crowd, I was a few rows back and all the way to the left side of the stage, so I couldn't see Nigel, Robin or Sacha. But I had a great view of Gavin and Dave. I don't really know what they were all wearing (I know some people like to hear about that stuff) i believe gavin was wearing the same shirt he wore to the Roseland Show this summer (black tank top) and I think Dave was wearing a red shirt, but I could be wrong. Anyway, back to the show.. I noticed these girls in the front row were waving to some other people so I had a feeling they were going to leave there spot, and I was right, a few minutes later they walked away and I took the opertunity to get into the front row. Then a little while later, Ithink it was during "Insect Kin" Gavin walked right by me to go into the crowd (I touched his arm, as he walked by). He just walked into the crowd and went into the bleachers where a bunch of people were sitting, so of course everyone rushed over to get as close to Gavin as possible. But I, knowing he would have to come back the same way stayed in the front row and just got closer to the middle of the stage :) So I got my camera out and took a picture as he walked by again to go back onstage (hopefully my pictures will come out this time). Gavin also went into the crowd another time, and he got his pants ripped (he was wearing cargo pants, and the side pocket was like off). The band sounded really great (as always) i was right next to the speaker, and I still don't have my full hearing back in my left ear, lol. The band closed with "Little Things," which was absolutley amazing!! Gavin sang without the guitar, and I finally got to see Nigel, because him and Dave got up on this little platform thing and played next to each other, as gavin was running around all over the place and Robin was playing standing up (by this time I was close enough to the middle to see robin) It was truely a beautiful site :) So then the concert was over. And we had to leave, because my mom didnt want to wait for us to see if we could meet the band, I couldn't really argue with her, she did drive me 5 hours so I could see Bush. Then we got lost for about 2 hours trying to find our was back to the hotel, lol... It was definitely an awesome concert, totally worth the drive :) |
04.03.00 Saginaw, MI Ryder Center By Sandy This was my 9th bush show :) They were AWESOME as always! Over the years, I've seen Gavin progress from stepping down into the crowd, to surfing, and now his latest thing seems to be running off into the balconies. I heard he did this already on the campus tour and he did it again at the Saginaw show. Opening song, Machinehead and Gavin jumps off the stage, climbs the stairs and is off running to the far side of the venue, right to the top of the bleachers! GO GAVIN!! Nigel finished singing the song, nice work Nigel!! and then stopped to wait for our favorite lead singer to get his ass back on stage and get on with the show! That is one of the things I like so much about Bush... they always put on a great show, always so full of energy on stage, always leave the crowd hyped and screaming for more! They did the cover of The Door's 'Break on Through", very high energy. And although I like the original Mouth over the remix, that one sounded pretty damn good too. Seems Sacha stole what was left of Gavin's red hair dye. Nigel's hair looked the same :P Got tix to see them again this Wed... CAN'T WAIT!! |
04.04.00 Oxford, OH Millet Hall By Reena
This was truly the best and most exciting night of my life. Here's
how the story goes: Lights off. Screams. Hearts pounding. BUSH took the stage! The guys started off with "Machinehead." For all who care, here is what the guys were wearing: Nigel- a white shirt. Gavin- a white jacket, took it off and had a white shirt and jeans. Dave- a grey shirt and black pants. Robin- no shirt. Sacha- green shirt. Anywho, here is what the guys played (I will know the actual order later):
Machinehead
Glycerine (rock version) During "Everything Zen," Gavin went all around the venue with his guitar, getting attacked by the crowd! Nigel had to finish the song for him, lol. I was really really surprised the guys played "Altered States" and especially "Mindchanger!" I love that song! Meera and I were freaking out a bit, lol. And during "Little Things," Gavin went back in the crowd and was singing, no guitar attached, of course. They played so so so well!! Nigel recognized me and smiled a few times. Gavin and Dave saw me, too. What a cool feeling! I had a BUSH flag draped over the barrier in front of me, so they can't miss me, lol. I found out that this show is going to be webcasted on MTV online next week!!! (Thank you camera man for the info.) It was a brilliant show, and the crowd was wild the whole time. They never cease to amaze me! |
04.15.00 Champaign, IL Assembly Hall By Katie Bush came on at about 10:00 opened up with Machinehead. I would write the whole setlist but I get so involved in concerts that I never seem to remember. I have to say that I was not aware of Gavin passing out on Thursday, maybe because I left right after school on Friday to go to the school for the concert and visit my sister. BUT Gavin did seem ok, voice a lil shaky, but otherwise, the concert was kickass as usual.. Gav went out into the crowd twice, and the first time, during "Insect Kin," I followed him and seriously booked it, he was right in front of me and smiled and cleared a spot bc people were being so violent. Then, he climbed on the railing and was totally jamming on his guitar and a guard kept trying to give him the mic but he woulnd't tyake it and kept playing the guitar for like 5 mins and then took the mic and finished the song with it's all in the pain in the way... and it was amazing, especially since it was a fav. from RBSC and unexpected.. I have some pics from that and my friend took pics of him on the railing singing bc my roll of film ran out just as he picked up the mic and the other roll was all the way at my seat.
It was so great to see the guys again, and this time they were all
moving around the whole stage (lol cept Robin) and Gav was going nuts running
back and forth, spinning so much with his guitar, laying on the floor, humping
the amp.. he got the crowd so pumped and talked a lot. They ended with "Little
Things" which was awesome because he made a few comments before "just be
yourself.. they'll try to bring you down, fuck them, just be your fucking
self" and then "this is Little Things great time nite" lol he was even like
party afterwards at the Holiday Inn : ) but.. this concert was just.. amazing..
3rd time seeing them and everytime it happens, I am reminded as to why I
have been obsessing over this band for the past 6 yrs. |
