Canada By Roger Elwoay Gavin has said it himself: Bush's biggest fan base (per total number of people in the country) is in Canada. Here in Toronto, the band is still quite massive. Even though newer bands and types of music have nearly taken over the young teenage population, Bush remains popular. We have Much Music (Canada's version of MTV, you could say) and great radio stations like 97.3 HTZ FM to thank for continually exposing Bush's talent and music. Unfortunately, we Canadians do not get many Bush tour up here, and it is a shame! Especially since so many people still appreciate them. In addition, Canada is home to some wonderful festivals that I wish Bush would partake in, such as EDGEfest and Summersault. As for the availability of merchandise, there is plenty of it, including CD imports, posters, t-shirts, stickers, and more. No matter what record store you walk in, there is undoubtedly a Bush CD to be found (usually). If only we could listen to them in concert...then again, they need to be here! |
Poland By Agnieszka Morawska Bush is one of the greatest bands ever and I do believe most of you probably wrote on HOW popular and big Bush is in one's country. Unfortunately I cannot say it about Poland, that is why they have never toured over here, but I hope it will change soon because I recently noticed that Bush's showing has increased since The Science Of Things was released. There are some people who adore their music, but like everywhere it's hard because pop songs rule almost all positions on the charts. Throughout the last three years, I've been happy to see them on Polish music channels and hear Bush on the nationwide radio stations. Songs like "Swallowed," "Mouth," "The Chemicals Between Us," and "Letting The Cables Sleep" did really well fighting with many great other rock songs. Also, sometimes there are articles in Polish mags on Bush but they are usually very small. The access to their merchandise and music is satisfactory, though it used to be very bad. Stuff like: "Sixteen Stone," Alleys & Motorways, or singles in general was very hard to get, and they had to be ordered in special commision. Sometimes it's not easy to understand what some lyrics are about, beacuse there are these communication conflicts with languages, and it's hard to figure out what Gavin had on his mind, and the exact, word-for-word translation may be a bit incomprehensible. There are these group of fans of rock music and Bush in Poland who would love to see them live some day here, and we hope it will come true. Bush is very welcome in this part of the world. |
Spain By Guillermo Mínguez García-Calvo The popularity of Bush here in Spain is not big enough, probably due to the fact of that they don't have any kind of pressence in the media. Their songs and their clips hardly ever appear on TV or on the radio, but we think this is due to the lack of promotion in our country, because they never come to promote their records: no gigs, no press coverages... absolutly nothing!! We don't understand why. There are bands like L7 who have even less promotion than Bush, but they come to play small venues and they see that they have a little base of fans who queue in their gigs for six or seven hours... I think the same would happen with Bush , because it's not difficult to find Bush's records. They can be found in every big record store. Bush in Spain are known by many people who like the kind of grunge music (Nirvana, Hole, Silverchair...), and I'm sure they will attend Bush gigs if they ever come to play in Spain. Gavin, Nigel, Dave and Robin: you should come to Spain, and you will see that here you have huge fans like myself. Personnally, I know a lot of people who really love Bush and they all are really pissed, because you never come to Spain. So please, we are waiting for you!!!!!! In March, Bush played in Portugal, (which is next to Spain), but they probably don't have as many fans as they have in Madrid or Barcelona, so we really want Bush in Spain this summer. If the reason why Bush doesn't come to Spain is because they think nobody likes their music here, they are wrong!! It is known that they are not in the Top Fourty, but if they come to play here, they will see that a lot of people will attend their shows... As I said, people who like alternative rock in Spain love Bush, too. There is a band from Madrid called Dover who are really huge in Spain, have toured both Europe and the States and recorded their latest cd "Late at Night" in Seattle with Barret Jones, who produced bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters and The Presidents of The United States. This band performs for 7000 people more or less each show in Spain and cover the song "Glycerine," so a lot of Spanish people have listened at least a song from Bush. |
United States By Reena Technology is changing. Fashion is changing. People are changing. Music is changing. Things in this world are just not the same as they used to be a few years ago when Bush was the biggest British band to hit American soil since The Beatles. During the Razorblade Suitcase tour, the group was still selling out arenas and coliseums in 15 minutes flat. Not bad, huh? Bush's success story is surely something to be proud of and one thing no one can take away from them. However, the music scene in America isn't calling for Bush as they once were, unfortunately. Bands like N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and other teeny bopper sensations have taken over the charts. Rock is not the same anymore either. 'Rap + metal ' styles are in high demand with bands such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock. Thankfully, Bush are not the kind of the band to sell out to the current trends in order to make a buck. Their newest album, The Science of Things, is personally my favorite Bush album to date. It still portrays Bush as they have always been: honest, hard working, provoking, and their music is still as raw, emotional, intense, and amazing as ever. This time around, Bush has evolved by adding electronic textures to their new songs giving it a new flavor while keeping it up to pace with current technology in music, not to mention that it sounds a bit spooky and sexy at the same time. Though Bush may not be getting quite the same amount of exposure as they used to, they are still a well known band who can get their voices (and instruments) heard at any time. They have just completed the MTV Campus Invasion tour with Moby and let me tell you, Bush can still ROCK. I have never seen another band that can hold the intensity felt in concert better than Bush, and their fans still love them here. Fortunately, Bush is still keeping true to themselves and the fans and are as unique as ever. |
